THE NORTH-WESTER VOTE

BIG MEETING AT CARNARVON.

Carnarvon, Oct. 12.

The conscription referendum cam paign has been started in the Lower North-West ? A large and enthusiastic meeting was held at Boor's Theatre, Carnarvon, last night, the Mayor (Mr. Whitlock) in the chair. The speakers included Messrs. Bishop, E. Angelo, Rudd, Marmion, and a returned soldier named Horton, and their arguments in favor of national service were well received. A telegram from Mr. Rufus Underwood to the 'Northern Times,' asking the 'North-Western people to vote in favor of national service, was read amid a storm of applause. The meeting declared itself in favor of conscription, there being but two dissentients, and it was decided to form a local branch of the Westralian Division National Service Referendum Council. A strong working committee was formed to carry out a campaign of education. It is believed that Carnarvon will almost unanimously favor the Government proposals. All the local bodies and the local press are loyally supporting the affirmative campaign. (G. Egan, Carnarvon.)
