NOR'-WEST TRADE.

TWO BOATS TAKEN OFF.

Having noticed that the well-known cattle steamer Ceduna was being dismantled of her cattle fittings, and that the Allinga had left the Nor'-West trade, a representative of this journal to-day approached Mr. W. E. Moxon, J.P., local manager of the Adelaide Steamship Co., with the object of finding out tho reason for these withdrawals.

Mr. Moxon said:--"The Ceduna is being dismantled owing to the close of the cattle season. She is now bound for foreign trade. Regarding the Allinga, the Nor'-West trade has become so absolutely unprofitable, owing to the unnecessary surplus of tonnage since the advent of the Government steamers, that she has been withdrawn entirely from the Nor'-West trade.'

Mr. Moxon was asked whether he had noticed that tenders for the Nor'-West mail service were being called, returnable on December 20, and also whether the company intended tendering.

"We are aware," said Mr. Moxon, "that tenders have been called, and have obtained particulars. We are giving the matter our consideration. No doubt our board of directors are also considering this matter."
