THE PEARLING INDUSTRY.
UNREST AT BROOME.
Broome, March 25.
Unrest almost exceeding that occasioned by the war has been caused in Broome by the announcement that one Clarke has been granted permission to bring here 50 pearling luggers and several schooners, all registered in a Dutch island. The Dutch pay less than half the wages that local pearlers pay, and it is understood that they are going to work in Australian waters off Broome. No particulars of the conditions of the permit can be obtained from Melbourne.
