Base metals are not negotiable now since the declaration of war, and consequently it is probable that all the copper and tin shows in the State will be closed down until the world's markets reopen. The Whim Well copper mine was the first to close. Although the company has £2,000 to £3,000 worth of copper on board a vessel at Balla Balla, it will have to remain there, and 200 men have been rendered idle. It is probable that the tin-fields will follow immediately, and the same temporary fate must overtake the lead mines at Northampton and at Uaroo, in the North-West.
