Tenders are being called for leasing the jetty at Balla Balla. For the past seven years the Whim Well Copper Mines, Ltd.. has paid the State a rental of £150 a year for the right of control, but apparently as the outcome of an agitation headed by the member for the district (Mr. J. Gardiner) the Government has now decided to let it by public tender. Seeing that the present lessee company, whose traffic averages upwards of 90 per cent. of the total receipts, is to be allowed to handle its own goods, and the Government regards the jetty as a business proposition too bad for it to have anything to do with, it is hardly likely that there will be much if any effort put forward on the part of outsiders to secure the lease.
