THE DORRE ISLAND HOSPITAL.

CHARGES AGAINST OFFICIALS.

Included amongst the documents placed upon the table of the Legislative Assembly on Tuesday was a file asked for by Mr. McDonald, the member for Gascoyne, containing papers in connection with the inquiry made into charges against the Medical Superintendent and the nurse in charge at the Lock Hospital, Dorre Island. An examination of the file shows that Mr. R. Fairbairn. the Commissioner, who conducted the inquiry, submitted a report dated November 21, 1912, in which he set forth that he arrived at Carnarvon on November 2 and on the 4th proceeded to take evidence on oath. The Chief Protector of Aborigines appeared for the Department. and Mr. Holden, solicitor, of Carnarvon defended the doctor and the nurse. The Commissioner in his report stated that the inquiry was held with closed doors. witnesses being called in one at a time. After dealing at length with the evidence of the various witnesses, the Commissioner held that the charges should be dismissed. He also commented on the friction which had existed between the persons who brought the charges, on the one hand, and the doctor on the other.
