THE ADELAIDE S.S. CO. AND THE MONGOLIA.
To the Editor.
Sir,--The statement was recently made by the Premier in the House that the Adelaide Steamship Co. had offered to purchase a steamer named the Mongolia which has been bought by the Government of Western Australia, this statement being made on the authority of Sir Newton Moore. I referred the matter to the company's general manager (Mr. E. Northcote) in Melbourne for the facts, and have received the following instructions from him:--"You are authorised to state Adelaide Co. never for one moment entertained purchase Mongolia. She with many others was submitted through our London agents, but was not entertained." The Premier's information, therefore, is incorrect.
