Broome, February 9.

A petition, addressed to the Premier, is being numerously signed locally praying for the State Government to construct steamers for the purpose of trading on the Nor'-West coast. Practically every person in Derby signed the petition.

In a communication from the Acting Premier (Mr Collier) to Mr Coleman, Derby, it is stated that the Government were considering the advisability of constructing State steamers for the purpose trading on this coast.
