RELATIVES ON GOLDFIELDS.

SORROWING HOMES.

Mr. James Crosbie, one of the stewards on the ill-fated Koombana, is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Crosbie, of Piccadilly-street, Kalgoorlie. His father is an enginedriver in the service of the West Australian Government Railways. Young Crosbie, who was about 22 years of age, was at one time in the employ of the Railway Department at Kalgoorlie, and later on he was a conductor in the employ of the Kalgoorlie and Boulder Electric Tramways, Ltd. He left the goldfields for Queensland some 18 months ago, and when the Brisbane strike trouble took place he determined upon coming back to West Australia. He worked his way on an Adelaide Steamship Company's boat to Fremantle, where he was transferred to the Koombana in the capacity of steward. He was making his second trip in that vessel when the cyclone sprang up and brought about terrible disaster. A pathetic note is given to the recital of his brief life's history in that when the Koombana was lying last at Fremantle he wrote a letter to his mother and told her that upon the vessel's return to that port after the next trip he would send her home a bag of oysters as a present for the family.
