KOOMBANA'S DISTRESS SIGNALS.

PICKED UP BY MONTORA.

Perth, April 19.

The s.s. Montora, which arrived at Port Darwin from Singapore last week, brought the last message from the Koombana. When passing through Ballim Straits on March 21 towards Singapore, she spoke to the Koombana. The wireless operator said he failed to catch the message clearly, but he learned that the Koombana was in trouble. The message ended in confused signals.

The chief harbourmaster on Monday next will conduct a preliminary inquiry into the loss of the Koombana.
