Writing under date 14th December, a correspondent says:--

It may interest you to know that about 100 tons of ore continues to go over the tramway weekly to Balla and that 600 tons have been shipped during the last two months (of an average of about 20 per cent.) and that it is expected that the "Charon" will lift from 300 to 400 tons.

About 40 men are now employed, and it is intended to double this number at the end of the month. Double the number would have been working now but for the wreck of the "Pelsart", which carried a large supply of fuel (oil) and consequently the restarting of the dressing plant was delayed.

The "Speedy" of 50 tons cap. has been purchased and is now en route for Balla, and the "Clyo" of 80 tons, has also been purchased and is now being rigged and repaired and should leave Fremantle about the end of the month.

It is expected, therefore, that the lighterage troubles and delays will shortly be a thing of the past. The company has a motor tug (the "Olga") at Balla ant this proves of great service in ensuring the navigation of the Balla Creek (to and from the jetty to open water) by lightering craft."
