CONVALESCENT NATIVES.—By the s.s. Koombana 29 native women and 10 native men returned to their homes, after being treated at Bernier and Dorre Islands. The natives looked a particularly happy lot, and their appearance speaks well for the attention they have received from the staffs at the islands. The party in question was in charge of Miss Lenihan, who for the last two years has occupied the position of matron at Bernier Island. After escorting the natives to their respective ports, Miss Lenihan will return South, it being her intention to pay a visit to the Old Country. Nurse Pingelly takes her place as matron at Bernier.
AB notes:
It is reported here that Harriet Lenihan will pay a visit to ‘the old country’ after acting as chaperone for the first repatriation voyage.
