Marine Inquiry at Fremantle.--Yesterday at Fremantle a Court of Marine Inquiry investigated the circumstances attending the minor collision of the steamer Pilbarra with the Nor'-West steamer Koombana on April 19. The former vessel, when being berthed at Victoria Quay on the day in question, swung round and struck the starboard quarter of the Koombana, inflicting damage thereto. The master of the Pilbarra yesterday stated that confusion had been caused him by the hoisting of the berthing flags. He was going astern in order to prevent his vessel striking the wharf, when the Pilbarra bumped into the Koombana. The Court found that the master of the Pilbarra had committed an error of judgment, but that he had been deceived by the manner which berthing flags had been hoisted at the time. He was ordered to pay the costs of the inquiry.
