The story about the Waratah is the usual hoax. The bottle picked up on the Victorian coast was signed J.G. Jones, purporting to be from a passenger, saying the vessel borke down on August 23, 1909. There was no passenger on board of that name and no person named Mrs Jones lived in George Street, Sydney, at the address given. The Waratah disappeared on July 27.
