THE WARATAH MYSTERY.

WAKEFIELD AGAIN DELAYED.

AN EMPHATIC INSTRUCTION.

Melbourne, February 25.

Two cablegrams were received to-day by the Premier regarding the steamer Wakefield, which is to search for the missing Waratah. According to earlier advices sent by the Agent-General (Sir J Taverner) the Wakefield was to have commenced her voyage on Wednesday, but the cablegram sent by him yesterday states:--

"With reference to my telegram of February 22, the naval officer of the Wakefield will not proceed on tho voyage without direct instructions from Melbourne. Owners will claim demurrage from February 20."

The second message, which was from the Premier of Natal (Mr. Moor), read:--

Lieutenont Seymour desires to know whether he may proceed on the search as per charter. Matter is most urgent; ship waiting.

As the result of the conference with the chairman of the Waratah Search Committee, Mr. Murray ordered the following cablegram to bo despatched to the Premier of Natal:--

Instruct Seymour to carry out the charter. Start instantly. Include Heard and Macdonald Islands, as arranged with owners.
