R.M.S. Koombana Aground.--In making the west berth at the jetty yesterday, the s.s. Koombana apparently kept too far away from the pier, with the result that she grounded on the sandbank. At this time of the year the very lowest tides are experienced, and this fact was to some extent accountable for the delay of over two hours occasioned to the mail steamer by the mishap. The incident shows the necessity of the dredging of the berth at this portion of the jetty being undertaken at once, as asked for by the Chamber of Commerce.
