ON THE KOOMBANA.
PASSENGER'S LEG FRACTURED.
A VALUABLE OFFICER.
On the arrival of the s.s. Koombana at Fremantle this morning her officers reported that a strange, but serious, accident had occurred during the voyage across from Adelaide. From particulars gleaned by a 'Daily News' representative on board, it appears that while walking along the deck of the ship on Sunday morning lost, when the vessel was about 200 miles into the Bight, one of the saloon passengers, a Mr. Proctor, of the Dunlop Rubber Co., who was coming across to Western Australia, slipped in a very simple manner, with the result that his left leg was severely fractured. Seeing Mr. Proctor fall, Mr. McDonald, chief engineer of the Koombana, who was standing close by at the time, and who has a thorough knowledge of the medical profession, rushed to his assistance, and the unfortunate victim of the accident was conveyed to his cabin. Mr. McDonald promptly set the fractured leg into position again, and the patient was left in his able charge until the arrival of the steamer in port this morning, when he was carried ashore and taken to the city.
