STRIKES AN OBSTRUCTION NEAR BROOME.
Yesterday sensational rumours were circulated at Fremantle regarding the safety of the Adelaide Company's new steamer Koombana, which it was at one period alleged had struck a rock outstide Broome, and had become a total wreck. During the morning the local office of the company was besieged with inquiries as to the foundation for the rumours. During the afternoon, however, an official telegram was received by Mr. Lewis, acting-manager of the Adelaide S.S. Company, from Captain Rees, to the effect that the vessel had struck something when nearing Broome on her way down the coast. On arrival during low tide, the bottom of the vessel had been examined and found to be unimpaired. She subsequently took her departure on Monday morning for Port Hedland, at which place she arrived at 9.40 a.m yesterday, leaving again at half-past 11 o'clock for Cossack, en route to Fremantle via ports.
