...
The Waratah was built by Messrs. Barclay Curle & Co. at their Clydeholm establishment. The naming ceremony was performed by Mrs. Taverner, wife of the Agent-General for Victoria. The vessel has five cargo hatches, with 14 power winches with derricks; and in addition two winches are placed on the boat deck for coaling operations. A powerful derrick, capable of lifting 20 tons, is fitted on the foremast. Capt. J. E. Ilbery, commodore of the Blue Anchor fleet, has been in the service of Messrs. Lund & Sons for 50 years, during about 28 years of which he has been the senior commander.
