The Nor'-West Trade
The New Steamer Koombana
Inspection Yesterday at Victoria Quay
Yesterday afternoon several hundred prominent citizens were the guests of the Adelaide Steamship Company management at Victoria Quay, when the new Nor'-West steamer Koombana was thrown open for inspection. The guests were welcomed on board by the Fremantle manager (Mr. W. Moxon), and after a detailed inspection of the vessel's appointments, were regaled in afternoon tea.
Sir John Forrest, in the course of a happy speech, congratulated the Adelaide S.S. Co. on its enterprise and voiced the belief that the company's efforts in the direction of providing first-class accommodation to Nor'-West sea travellers and traders would meet with appreciation when the new liner took up her run to Singapore. The splendid accommodation, appointments, and capacity of the Koombana have already been dealt with comprehensively in our columns. Yesterday visitors were unanimous in acclaiming the new steamer a worthy addition to the Adelaide S.S. Co.'s line.
