In 1894 the s.s. Albany, which also belonged to the A.S.S. Company, was caught in the willy-willy which did so much damage in the Roebourne district, the vessel being then on her way from Broome to Cossack. She arrived at the latter place about two days behind time, and fears were naturally aroused for her safety. On being interviewed, the master of the steamer (Captain Odman) stated that his boat has lost her rudder, but he made comparatively light of the occurrence, adding, in a jocular tone, "The old boat knew her way into port too well to need any guidance." As a matter of fact, however, she was brought in by good seamanship, her direction being controlled by the sails spread for the purpose.
